About

Love, Collective wisdom, and American democracy are underlying values and beliefs.  They grow from my life experiences.  In my youth in Kansas, Nebraska and New Mexico I learned to care about family, community, learning, and trusting my intuition.  Two major careers occupied my adult life:  broadcast journalism in New Mexico, Arizona, Florida and Oregon; and public service and politics in Oregon.  Working as a full-time volunteer on the Obama campaign in Portland filled my weeks and months since “retiring” the summer of 2007.  I miss that experience but many of my fellow volunteers are working to build on the magic.  I turn again to writing.  There are few endeavors that better nurture growth.  Perhaps except for my family:  my beautiful wife Elizabeth, my son Sean and his wife Anita, and my three grandchildren-Willam, Ave and Isaiah-and my numerous friends.

Chuck, your blog is so beautifully written and so well stated. My hope for President Obama is that we are not expecting too much of him.

Thank you for starting this blog page. I will be a regular visiter.

Tucker, it seems no modern President has faced the series of crises that have greeted Barack Obama. We and history apparently expect a lot of him. I agree we should remember he is human, but his skill and capacity is remarkable.
